This collaboration with our friends and local coffee roasters, Southeastern Roastery, started with a search to find the perfect coffee to complement Penn Quarter Porter. We Selected a medium roast Sumatra Natural bean, called Jantung Mandehling, for its earthy nuances. Flavors of dark cocoa, spiciness, and elegant layers of dried fruits from the coffee pair with the roasty notes in our robust porter while adding depth to the mouthfeel.
The roasted scent of baker’s chocolate and a hint of coffee offer a welcoming aroma to the dark depths of this robust porter as it tiptoes the line between porter and stout. Upon imbibing, chocolate and espresso notes engulf the tongue along with hints of ash and toasted brown sugar that linger toward the finish in creamy entanglement. Cocoa sweetness and slight burnt malt flavors play together throughout making this dark brew a year-round delicacy.
